The BCCI is set to launch a formal protest against ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who controversially took the Asia Cup 2025 trophy with him after India declined to accept it from his hands during the post-match ceremony.
BCCI Reacts to the Incident
In a recent statement, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the board’s decision to escalate the issue at the upcoming ICC conference in Dubai this November.
“We decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC Chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision.
This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible,” Saikia told India Today.
He further added:
“There is an ICC conference scheduled in Dubai this November, and at that conference, we will launch a very serious and strong protest against the actions of the ACC chairman.”

Why India Refused to Accept the Trophy?
The Indian players reportedly declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi due to his dual role as ACC chairman and a top official in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). His perceived bias throughout the tournament, from the handshake controversy to questionable on-field conduct by Pakistani players, had already raised concerns within the Indian camp..

Amid the fallout, Naqvi further inflamed tensions by posting a distasteful video on X (formerly Twitter). The clip appeared to mock Indian fans, indirectly referencing Pakistan’s claims of shooting down Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. While Naqvi didn’t say anything explicitly, he shared an out-of-context Cristiano Ronaldo clip — and fans immediately picked up on the not-so-subtle message.
The warning signs were always there. Naqvi flexed, postured, and turned the moment into a petty power play: “my trophy, my terms.” India stood their ground and refused to budge. What followed was chaotic, undignified, and completely unnecessary. A spectacular Indian campaign capped off with a dominant win ended on a sour, avoidable note.
