India will take on West Indies in the first of two-match Test series on Thursday, October 02 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedebad. This will be the second Test for both teams in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. India drew the five-match Test series against England 2-2, while the Caribbean side was whitewashed 3-0 by Australia. West Indies are currently ranked sixth in the WTC Rankings, but that is because three teams are yet to play a Test series in this WTC 2025-27 cycle.
Not a lot of things have gone right for the West Indies as they were all-out 27 against Australia. They also lost the T20I series against Nepal. Once a mighty force to reckon with, the Caribbean side has fallen deeply without leaving any crumbs. Naturally, India start as the overwhelming favorites to win the two-match Test series due to their sheer all-round brilliance and depth.

This will be the first Test for skipper Shubman Gill on home soil. This is also the first time since a Test is being played in India after their 3-0 loss against New Zealand in 2024. Spin has been India's Achilles heal for over three years, with the opposition teams having no trouble whatsoever in facing India's spinners.
However, the previous series had the presence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma at home against New Zealand. This time, the duo, along with Ashwin, have retired from Test cricket. This is a new-look India squad, playing a fearless brand of cricket. While India have the experience of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, the rest of the guys are playing a home Test against West Indies for the first time.
On the other hand, the West Indies have re-hauled a bit, as they have dropped Kraigg Braithwaite. They have included Tangerine Chanderpaul and Brandon King. Both players are a bit inexperienced in the red-ball format. Â However, with nothing to lose, the duo can play aggressively and put pressure on the Indian bowlers.
