Rangiri Dambulla Stadium, also known as the Dambulla Stadium, is located in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, near the historic town of Dambulla. It was built on a 60-acre site leased from the Rangiri Dambulla Temple. Sri Lanka’s only dry zone cricket stadium, it was established in 2000 and hosted its first ODI between Sri Lanka and England in 2001.
Dambulla Stadium can accommodate 16,800 spectators, with the capacity expandable up to 30,000 for major events. The venue offers modern amenities, including floodlights, a media box, and VIP facilities.
The surface has natural grass, which helps bowlers with moisture underneath. Spinners gain an advantage from the rough patches, especially in longer formats. However, batters also benefit, as the venue has produced several high-scoring matches over the years, making it a balanced venue for the game.
