The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to implement the plate format for the upcoming domestic one-day tournament, Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/56 season. Not only for the Hazare tournament, but the Board has decided to introduce a plate format for other one-day matches. Notably, only the Ranji Trophy had an elite and plate format in place. However, with an eye on making the domestic one-day cups more competitive, the BCCI has decided to have plate formats.
The mega domestic 2025/26 season will kick off with the Duleep Trophy on August 28 to September 15. As per The Times of India, one-day tournaments, including Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women's one-day games, and Under-23 Men's state A Trophy, will see teams placed in four elite and one plate group. The report mentions that only one among the four teams will be promoted or demoted between the elite and plate groups from this domestic season.

Furthermore, BCCI has also tweaked the domestic T20 tournament - Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy & Â Senior Women's T20 trophies. It has introduced Super League stage, instead of knockout phase in the T20 tournaments.
BCCI's new implementation of rules set to make 2025/26 season competitive
With the rules for white-ball formats in place, the domestic competition for the 2025/26 season is set to competitive and challenging for teams. It is with these domestic tournaments that a player's true caliber shines through. The performances are evaluated, and the players are identified as future superstars or leaders. The next ODI World Cup will be played in 2027, and there are several spots to be filled in the ODI national team.
